"Will ChatGPT report me to my school?" is a question pupils search a lot. The short answer is no, ChatGPT does not message your school. But that is not the same as your school being unable to see or spot AI use. Here is the full picture.
Does ChatGPT report you to your school?
No. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, does not contact your school to tell it what you asked. It does not know which school you go to unless you tell it, and there is no feature that sends your chats to teachers.
There are narrow exceptions for serious safety issues: like other online services, OpenAI has said it may involve the authorities in rare cases involving an imminent threat of serious harm to others. That is about preventing harm, not homework.
How schools can still see or spot AI use
Your school does not need ChatGPT to tell it anything. There are other ways schools know about AI use:

Some schools and colleges provide ChatGPT through an education or organisation plan. In that case, your use sits within the institution's account, and administrators may have access to usage information and content, depending on the plan and settings. Using AI honestly
The best way to avoid worrying about whether a teacher will find out is simple: follow the rules for each task. Many teachers are happy for pupils to use AI to understand a topic, generate practice questions or get feedback on a draft — as long as the final work is the pupil's own and AI use is declared where required.
