Teacher-led, whole-class, on the board. You hold the account, you type the prompts, the children direct the thinking. Six activities that work

1. Spot the mistake

Ask AI something about a topic the class knows well. Challenge them to find errors. Children love catching a computer being wrong, and it teaches the single most important lesson: fluent doesn't mean correct.

2. Prompt improvement

Give AI a vague prompt, show the mediocre result. Ask the class how to make it better. Try their improvements live. They learn that the quality of the question determines the quality of the answer.

3. Two ways to explain

Ask AI to explain a concept you've taught. Compare it with how you explained it. Which is clearer? What did AI miss? This makes children evaluate rather than accept.

4. The invented facts hunt

Ask AI for facts about a local topic — your town, your school's history. It will often invent plausible-sounding details. Verify them together. Genuinely memorable.

5. AI as a writing partner, not a writer

The class writes a story opening. Ask AI for three possible next sentences. The class debates which fits their story best — or rejects all three and writes their own. AI offers options; children make choices.

6. What can't AI do?

A discussion lesson. Ask it to describe how your class felt during sports day, or what happened at break. It can't know. A powerful, concrete way to understand what AI actually is.

The message to land at KS2: AI is a tool that guesses what words come next. It's often useful, sometimes wrong, and it doesn't know you or your world. Children who understand that at 10 approach it far more sensibly at 15.
